The Poles library contains all the poles in the project, categorized by material type. Access it from the Library menu at the top of a project.
For a given kind of material, other than Generic, only properties relevant to this will be displayed and available for editing. For example, tubes are available for steel poles and not wood poles.
Poles that appear in the Generic tab are available for use in your project as normal and do not need to be migrated. Migrating poles to their specific material kinds is recommended for improved usability and data management. For more information see How to migrate.
For more information about the kinds of pole material, see:
For users familiar with the previous pole library interface, and looking for more information about the changes, see:
General Navigation
The Poles library popup has the following options in the top left corner
Import - create new poles or update details of existing poles (where names match) using a CSV
Export - download all poles as a CSV
Note the export will exclude any poles in the Steel Poles tab
Remove Unused - delete all poles from the library that are not used in the project
Tabs
Each pole type has a specific tab with the following items:
On the left is a sidebar containing controls to add a new pole, the search bar and a list of the available poles, of that kind, in the project.
On the right is the editor tab and the bulk-actions tab.
The Editor tab contains the data fields for a specific pole and will vary depending on the pole type. There are a number of fields that are consistent regardless of type and these appear in the General section.
Add new pole type
Add a new pole type to the project without having to import or copy and edit an existing pole.
Navigate to the correct pole type tab then click the + Add Pole Type option at the top of the sidebar. Update the name in the pop up and click OK. To exit the creation process, click Cancel.
The new pole will appear in the the sidebar's list of available poles with a range of default values which can be updated using the editor.
Editor
The pole Editor tab contains all relevant fields for a given pole type as well as a 2D visualization. The visualization includes key information set out to 2 decimal places, such as:
Length
Sinking Depth - shown as distance from bottom of the pole to the Ground Line (GL)
Diameter Tip
Diameter Butt
The visualization will be dynamically updated as the data fields are edited and updates are automatically saved.
Bulk action
The Bulk Action tab enables large-scale editing of the poles library. Using the checkboxes to select multiple poles in the sidebar adds them to the bulk action report where mass edits can be made.
Use the column headers to further sort and filter the table, then use the Bulk Edit icon () to apply the same value to all visible rows (i.e. changes will not apply to rows that are filtered-out).
Search bar
The search bar filters the poles in the sidebar. Clicking the chevron to the right exposes the advanced search filters.
Once the search terms and filters are correct, use the checkbox next to the Summary number of search results to select all poles for bulk editing. Alternatively, pick the relevant poles for bulk editing from the search results by using the check boxes next to individual poles within the results list. This will open the Bulk Action tab (see above).
When no search is applied, all poles available in the project will be displayed. Poles in the list containing a blue dot are currently being used in the project.
There are two icons next to each pole within the sidebar
Copy (
) - duplicates the pole with a prompt to provide a name which must be unique
Delete (
) - removes the pole from the library
Note this will be disabled for any poles that are currently in use in the project.
Add Custom Fields
To add a custom field that appears in the Poles library select the relevant poles from the sidebar and then navigate to the Bulk Action tab. Create the field or expose it in the table. Once the field has been added, click the cog icon, open More Settings and enable Show in properties panel.
Note enabling Show in properties panel from the
PoleTypes
report will have the same effect.
If one or more field has this setting enable, the Poles library will show an Additional Properties section just below the General section and display the fields.
Pole Types report
Details of poles types can be accessed from reports including the PoleTypes
report.
For more information on reports see, Creating a custom report.
Not all fields are available for all pole types so reports containing various pole types may contain columns where fields are populated and editable for some poles and not others.
