Overview
Neara's useful and intuitive team commenting capabilities include:
Create new comment threads on poles and towers;
Tag other users in the Project in a comment - they'll receive an email notification;
Reply in an existing comment thread;
When a conversation is done, mark it as Resolved;
Copy and share links directly to comment threads; and
Export all comments in a project to a file, for audit and wider sharing.
Comments in Neara projects are organized into threads. Threads help keep conversations grouped and in-context. Each comment thread starts with a comment, and can have any number of replies.
When a conversation in a thread is completed, you can mark the thread as Resolved. Resolved threads hidden by default and cannot be modified after they've been marked as resolved, but can be viewed later if needed.
In general, you can have one unresolved comment thread per asset - such as a structure or conductor - at a time.
View existing threads
To view, create, and respond to comment threads in a project, turn on Comment mode by clicking the comment icon on the toolbar:
The Comments panel will be displayed on the right. If there are unresolved comment threads on any structure in the design, a blue indicator will appear on the structure, and the comments panel will display all unresolved threads:
Expand a comment thread
Click the Show replies option on a collapsed thread to view all replies in it.
If the thread is unresolved, you can also post a new comment to continue the conversation:
Click Hide replies to collapse the comment thread.
Show and hide resolved comment threads
To also display all resolved comment threads in the panel, select Show resolved on the action (…) menu in the upper-right of the panel:
To hide the resolved comment threads again, select Hide resolved from the same menu.
View a specific comment thread
To focus on a single comment thread related to a structure in your project, while in Comment mode click a blue comment icon.
The blue comment icon will be highlighted with a green border to indicate that it is the currently focused one, and the comments panel will scroll to and expand just that specific comment thread. If the comment thread is still unresolved, you can also post a new reply to it:
Start a new comment thread
To start a new comment thread, while in Comment mode hover your mouse over a structure that does not already have an active comment thread. A green dot indicator will appear - hover over it and your mouse cursor will change into an Add Comment (+) icon to indicate you can start a new comment thread there:
Click the dot to start a new thread - the edit box will appear in the Comments panel.
Post a reply in an existing thread
To post a comment to reply in an existing, unresolved comment thread, start typing in the space provided at the bottom of the thread.
You can mention another Neara user in your organisation by typing the @ symbol and the first few letters of their name. Neara will automatically suggest matches - click a name to insert it:
Users who are @
mentioned in a comment will receive an email notification, with a link to view and reply in the comment thread
When ready, click Post to post your reply.
Edit an existing comment
You can edit your own comments and replies, provided the thread is unresolved. Choose Edit from the action (…) menu next to your comment:
Edited comments are displayed with “(edited)” at the end of the comment text.
Resolve a thread
To resolve a comment thread, select Resolve thread from the action (…) menu at the top-left corner of the thread:
Resolved comment threads are marked with a white checkbox, do not accept further replies, and cannot be marked as unresolved.
Copy a link to a comment
To copy the direct URL link to a comment in a project, select Copy link from the action (…) menu at the top-left corner of the comment:
The link will be copied to your device's clipboard, ready for sharing in email, documents, and more. Other users with a Neara account who have access to that project can click that link and be taken immediately to the comment after the project opens.
Download all comments
At the top of the Comments panel, select Download comments from the action (…) menu:
All comments (including resolved) will be downloaded as a Comma-Separated Value (CSV) file to your device. Each comment will include information about the comment thread it relates to, the author, and more.
