How to use FEA panel

Updated over a month ago

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can be run through the FEA panel as show below or through custom formulas.

All components used in FEA simulations must have sensible engineering parameters or the FEA engine may not converge.

For assistance in troubleshooting failed solves, see Viewing FEA model and troubleshooting.

Running FEA from FEA panel

  1. Select (+) from any section on the workspace and select FEA from the panels menu

    1. For more information on how to add panels see Add more panels

  2. Under Simulations the available environments will appear and the applicable number of wind directions (Wind Dirs) must be configured for any with wind pressure.

    1. Note environments must have wind pressure in order to specify wind directions and environments with 2 wind directions will apply perpendicular to the conductors.

  3. Review and update Load Source

    1. See FEA Load Source for more information

  4. Review and update Structure Model settings

  5. Select the relevant model objects in Perspective panel and either click Run on an individual environment or click Run All to run all environments.

Viewing structure simulation

Perspective panel will show what the structure looks like during the FEA simulation based on the configuration of the Visibility column in the Simulations section.

  • For Environments with multiple wind directions, there is an additional option to specify which direction is visualized.

Simulation results

To view the results of the simulations use either:

  1. Detailed Reports column of the Simulations section

  2. Structure Summary or Section Summary of the Reports section
