Environment temperature has been split into ambient temperature and wire temperature

21 October, 2024

Updated over a month ago

Environments have been upgraded to split temperature into Ambient Temperature and Wire Temperature.

Wire Temperature replaces previous temperature setting and applies to conductors.

Ambient Temperature applies to both aerial and ground stays/guys and is used by Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

For more information about this functionality see, Set wire temperature and ambient temperature.

Environments in existing projects

Existing projects will be automatically upgraded to provide Ambient Temperature and Wire Temperature options.

In Environments menu, Wire Temperature will retain previous temperature setting and Ambient Temperature will be set to wire and retain existing functionality.

In Schema Editor, existing custom environments using temperature argument will set both Ambient Temperature and Wire Temperature to constant with the value specified.

Exporting and importing environments

Environments exported to CSV or pasted to Excel no longer contain weather.temperature and weather.temperature_query. This has been replaced with:

  • weather.wire_temperature

  • weather.wire_temperature_query

  • weather.ambient_temperature

  • weather.ambient_temperature_query

The field names ending in query will display the temperature type option selected for that environment (e.g. Constant). The temperature fields will contain a numeric value if a constant temperature has been specified, otherwise they will be blank.

Environments imported from CSV or pasted from excel will continue to support the previous format and will set Ambient Temperature to wire.
