Examples

Ground

ground

General surface of the earth

Vegetation

veg

Vegetation:

  • Plants, trees, hedges, tall grass

  • Includes leaves, trunks, branches

Building

building

Buildings:

  • An enclosed structure that has walls and a roof

  • Includes roof, stairwells, balconies, verandahs, decks attached to the structure

  • Includes skyscrapers

Fence

fence

Fences, on the ground:

  • Includes all solid surfaces to the ground

  • Includes sound barriers next to roads and railways

  • Includes stairwell railings only if the stairs are in the ground (see example)

  • Does not include rooftop or balcony railings, which are classified as building

Vehicle

vehicle

Ground-based, mechanical moving objects:

  • Includes cars, trucks, trailers, trains, carriages, motorcycles

  • Do not include mobile vehicles like mobile cranes, construction equipment

  • Does not include boats or aircraft

Small object (ground)

smo_gnd

Small object on the ground:

  • Various objects under 2m in height

  • Includes bollards, people, animals, boxes, bins, small tanks and containers, chairs, benches

  • Does not include fence

Small object (rooftop)

smo_rt

Small object on a rooftop:

  • Identifiable objects on the roof of a building, such as air conditioning unit, chimney, ventilation shafts

  • Does not include dormer (part of building) or antenna (part of Antenna (rooftop))

Antenna (rooftop)

antenna_rt

Antenna on a rooftop:

  • Domestic / civilian antennas mounted on the roof of a building

  • Does not include larger roof-mounted clothes lines, fences, cables, very tall antenna structures

Noise

noise

LiDAR points that do not represent real-world objects.

Created by incorrect sensor readings, disturbances in the atmosphere, jetstreams, clouds, etc.

Pole (non-power)

pole_np

Pole-shaped objects that are not used to support wires

  • Includes: street lights, street signs, stop lights, flag poles, miscellaneous tall “posts” over ~4m in height

Special

special

Unclassified points. Typically assigned to class number 0.

Stay/Guy

stays

A cable that connects a utility pole to the ground to counteract forces on the pole

  • Does not include cables that connect poles to other poles (“aerial stays”, which are classified as conductor)

Tower

tower

  • Includes: Lattice transmission towers, Lattice H-Frame transmission structures, structures more complex than a straight pole

  • Includes the insulators

  • Does not include jumper cables that connect the circuits (conductor)

Structure

structure

  • A utility pole

  • Includes cross-arms, transformers, other attachments, the insulators, solid cross-beam members and solid ground support beams

  • Does not include well-defined jumper cables

Conductor

conductor

Electrified wide that is stringing to a pole, or between two poles.

  • Does not include insulators (included in structure)

  • Does not include wires inside substations

  • Includes jumper cables when clearly visible

  • Includes aerial stays between two poles

  • Distinct from Stay/Guy which is a non-electrified wire that connects a pole to the ground
