Create a cross section in the Profile view
Updated over 8 months ago

The Profile Builder tool on the toolbar is used to view and create a cross section of your model, helping to see any clearance violations under different conductor sag conditions:

Any clearance lines defined under the Clearances menu are shown in the profile view as a blue line:

Create a profile manually

Normally, a profile will automatically be created as conductors are placed and selected.

However, you can create the profile of a specific section by clicking the Profile Builder tool and then selecting Clear in the Properties panel in the sidebar.

You can then sequentially click the poles you would like to be included and the Profile view will automatically update:

Auto-extend

With the Auto-extend option, after a couple of poles have been clicked Neara will automatically extend the remainder of the line:

The red line under the conductors shows the view being created.

Reverse

With the Reverse option, you can reverse the order in which objects are displayed the Profile view.

Extend until strain

When you have more than two poles selected to be displayed in the profile, you can click Extend until strain to add connected poles to the Profile view until a pole with a termination strain is reached.

Remove sections from the profile

To remove a specific section, click the (x) at the far right end of a pole in the list in the Profile Builder tool Properties in the sidebar:

Add custom profiles

In addition to the Default profile view, you can also save custom profile views. To do so, click Add new to add profiles.

You can switch between active profiles by clicking on the profile name and selecting another profile from the drop down menu.

By default, a new profile is blank. To update the contents of a profile view, click Edit and select the poles you want included. You can also use the reverse, auto-extend, extend until strain and clear functionality outlined above to further modify your profile.

Once you are happy with it, click Save to save the profile, otherwise click Discard to discard the new profile and any edits. If you are in the middle of making changes and right click off the tool, a popup to save or discard will appear.

Selecting a new tool which editing a profile will discard changes since last save
