Add a stay/guy wire to a pole
Updated over 8 months ago

There are two ways to add a stay/guy wire to an existing pole.

Use the Move and Select tool

In this method, to add a stay to a pole first select the pole by clicking the Move and select tool on the toolbar and then click on a pole:

In the Properties panel in the sidebar, open the Structure tab and click Add opposing stay:

Neara adds the stay automatically, directly opposing the resultant force acting on the pole:

Use the Stay/guy wire tool

Alternatively, to add a single or multiple stays to a pole, select the Stay/guy wire tool on the toolbar:

To place a stay on a pole:

  1. Click the Stay tool on the toolbar.

  2. Hover over the location where you would like to place it. There are two options:

    • Place it in line with conductors; or

    • Place it in line with a crossarm/the pole itself.

  3. Once you are hovering over the location, you will see it automatically place a stay at 45 degrees to the location on the pole

  4. Left-click to confirm the location

The stay cable type will default to the first cable type in your library - you may need to change it after placement. See below.

Edit a stay/guy wire

Once you have placed a stay/guy wire you can modify it to your specifications by selecting the Move and Select tool on the toolbar and clicking on the stay to display its options on the Properties panel in the sidebar:

Neara provides multiple options to fine-tune the stay to exact specifications. As these options allow for specific editing of a single stay, they are only displayed in the Properties panel when a single stay is selected.

The available options include:

  • Cable type

  • Top Distance and attachment Height: control the height of its attachment to a pole

  • Offset: controls how far away from the pole the stay attaches to the ground

  • Anchor distance

  • Bearing

Use a bollard pole

You may also need to attach a stay to a pole to manoeuvre around obstacles. You can do this by using a bollard pole.

Add a bollard pole by selecting the stay using the Move and Select tool in the toolbar, and then clicking the Use bollard pole option in the Properties panel in the sidebar:

Neara will automatically add a bollard pole. To edit its properties, select the bollard pole with the Move and Select tool on the toolbar. To remove it, select the bollard pole and choose Remove bollard pole on the Properties panel:
